Cabulous on the Radio

February 10th, 2010

Here’s a late-night talk radio interview with John Wolpert and Kieran Farr about Cabulous on San Francisco station KPOO:  Cabulous Interview on 89.5 FM KPOO San Francisco

It’s pretty funny, and a pretty good overview of what Cabulous is all about – why it is important for taxi drivers.

Taxi App Candidate for Best App Ever

January 3rd, 2010

Ridecharge’s Taxi Magic is nominated for a Best App Ever award.

Might seem strange for us to promote this, but for what Taxi Magic does – booking a cab through traditional dispatch – it really is a whole lot better what we had before…dial-up. We even recommend Taxi Magic when you want to book a car in advance of your trip…say to the airport tomorrow.

Cabulous, on the other hand, focuses squarely on the pick-up market: You are on the street and need to find that nearest cab, which is probably just a couple blocks away and out of sight. What you don’t want is to let one company’s dispatcher decide who that closest cab is. You want to see for yourself. That’s where to use Cabulous. Every nearby driver on your map – no matter what company they work for, no matter how small or large the cab company.

We hope you will agree that as Cabulous matures, it will be to Taxi Magic what Taxi Magic was for dispatch…a huge step up (at least for the “find a cab” part). If their focus on becoming a new way to pay for a cab works, we might be in line to add their payment system to allow Cabulous users to pay through Ridecharge. Who knows? (For now though, Cabulous will continue to focus on simply making an insanely great experience for drivers and passengers trying to find each other.)

Apple Lovin’

December 3rd, 2009

We were out minding our own business – telling people about Cabulous in San Francisco….in front of the Apple Store on Market.

When whoaaa!  Who should come out but one of the friendly Apple Store guys asking what all the hubub was about.  So we hailed a cab with Cabulous.

This is what he said.  (And no, we didn’t put him up to it…..this was true Apple Love.)

The First Ride

October 24th, 2009

This is the first time Cabulous was used to catch a real taxi.

The passenger was at Marina and Divisadero in San Francisco, spotted Cabulous driver Kieran Farr driving across town in the financial district and hailed with Cabulous. Kieran accepted the hail, and was able to see the passenger walking up to Lombard street. The cab and passenger met at Chestnut street.

The best part of the experience was how being able to confidently walk around and being able to see each other the entire time made the relatively long distance between hail and pick up location seem very short. Passenger didn’t have to wait in one spot wondering where the driver was, and the driver saw where the the passenger was walking… And saved four blocks in gas, thanks to the passenger walking towards the driver.
