Adaptable. Affordable. Amber.
All three attributes that describe the Xprite Amber 240 LED light bar. This bar is what you would call a mini unit - Or perhaps “micro” would be a better name for it. Measuring only 12.9 x 7.2 x 3.4 inches, and weighing in at four pounds, it’s smaller than most mini bars on the market.
But this isn’t only one of the smallest models you’ll find. It’s also one of the most inexpensive. Does that mean it's also one of the least performing ones? Our tests confirm a resounding “no”.
While you’ll definitely be able to find better and stronger models on the market, you can’t really judge this one without factoring in the price. And for what you’re paying, you get a solid product that can deliver for years to come.
Compared to other mini units, you’ll have to double your price at least to get the same type of quality as you get with this one.
With that said, you definitely have to consider your needs as well. The output on this one is related to its price. But if you’re looking for a modest unit for a modest price — this one fulfills your criteria.
Here’s a summary of what you get for the price:
The bar consists of 240 small long-lasting LED bulbs with an expected lifespan of 30,000 hours. Attached in an oval formation, they produce an amber light that can be clearly seen from a distance in the dark — even during demanding weather conditions.
As for daytime, it does deliver then too. But, the light is more difficult to spot during bright, sunny days — and it does leave some room for improvement in that regard. But again, if you factor in the price, this bar delivers just as good — if not more — than competing products more than twice the price.
The bar comes with seven different strobe patterns, which can be changed with the push of a button.
The selectable modes are as follows:
Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a last-pattern-used function, so you have to manually select your favorite pattern once you restart the unit. But this is a minor detail for most people, as it can be quickly re-selected in a matter of seconds.
The bulbs are all housed in a plastic casing, giving it a compact impression. The housing is supposed to be 100% waterproof, and so far it has delivered on that promise in our testing.
It has shown no signs of leaking or condensation — even after being drenched in snow. Which is actually quite impressive. It’s one feat many of the more expensive bars couldn’t repeat.
In combination with the long-lasting lights, this makes for a super durable product for the price. It achieves things other products don’t, and you definitely get a solid product for what you pay.
When it comes to installation, this one is about as easy as they come. It is mounted with magnets that all come with protective covers which ensure that they won’t scratch the paint.
And while they may not look like much, they are surprisingly powerful. In our testing, the light never budged — even at speeds of up 80 miles per hour. Which is quite astonishing for a unit of this size.
Since the bar itself is so light and portable, it’s super simple to attach it to any metal surface. As for electrical installation, it comes with a seven feet cable and a 12V cigarette lighter plug. Here’s one downside, however, since the cord is actually quite short and coiled.
Many find the coiled cords frustrating and difficult to stretch. In most cases, a straight one would be preferred. But, this can easily be rectified by buying a straight cord for under $10. Still, you’ll be far under the price point of most other light bars out there with the same quality.
Which brings about the question — who is this suitable for?
Being on the lower end of the price-range, this light is best suitable for those looking for a basic, but functional light. And as the Xprite Amber 240 LED is an inexpensive light, you shouldn’t expect the same type of quality you get for a $100-200 light bar. Still, it’s a valid option for a wide variety of uses.
Xprite Amber 240 LED has a bright light that is clearly visible in the dark, even during severe weather conditions such as snow or rain. And with its waterproof casing, it makes for a good option for those looking to use it for ploughing or landscaping, for example.
What’s worth noting, however, is that some might wish that the light is more visible during daytime. While it is often distinguishable from afar, it might be more difficult to spot during especially bright days.
As with any light bar, a potential buyer must analyze their needs before a purchase. If you are looking for an affordable, yet durable light bar to be used in low-light conditions, this bar checks all the boxes.
All in all, the Xprite Amber 240 LED definitely provides good value for your money.
Is the Xprite Amber 240 LED the best one on the market? No. But, it’s a small and highly affordable bar that gets the job done. And if you’re looking to get something of comparative quality, you have to be willing to pay twice the price, if not more. The light bar is super powerful, especially for its price range. It's sturdy and waterproof, giving the impression of a professional product.
Don't be taken in by the cheap price, this light does bring quality.
